We wish to thank all the wonderful singers worldwide for participating in our World Peace Choir.
Also a special thank you to our sponsors and supporters.
Our online choir project was launched on September 21, World Peace Day, using music and song as great tools for raising awareness of the current urgent need for World Peace. We were so pleased to receive individual videos of 150 singers from 16 different countries. So in fact this is a unique choir whose members have never met, having contributed their voices entirely through the internet.
The inspiration to start World Peace Choir came from the teachings of Saint Francis and also from his birthplace, the medieval Italian city of Assisi. Since the famous inter-religious meeting there in 1986 between Pope John Paul II, Desmond Tutu, the Dalai Lama, Mother Theresa, and other Christian and non-Christian religious leaders, the city has been known as The City Of Peace.
Observing World Peace Day - September 21, 2015
Medieval friar Francis of Assisi taught his followers that, in order to live in peace and harmony with the world around them, they needed to establish an inner peace in their own hearts first.
In his own words:
"While you are proclaiming peace with your lips, be careful to have it even more fully in your heart."
Inside all of us there is a song of peace waiting to be sung, and that song of peace is a truly universal message.
And so the Christian references in this song can symbolise many different meanings to many different people of many different religions, beliefs, or philosophies.
